How do you choose?

On August 13th I had Kas, Lorraine, Blake & Kaylee come in for a family portrait session.  Kas is my ‘go to’ guy for all things computer related!  I’ve been using his services for over a year and couldn’t be happier.  Whenever I have a problem I just have to call him and he takes...

Inge - You don’t! You take them all! :-) ))

Now some people might call these ‘Lifestyle’ photographs, but these are MORE than that! You have control of the lighting and posing even though it doesn’t look like you have posed this family. Now THAT’S what professional photography is all about – making it look unposed when you have actually guided people into position. They’re NOT just ‘snapshots’ like all the ‘cheap and cheerful’ photographers out there claim are ‘Lifestyle’ photography. You have captured the relationships in this family perfectly, and I can feel the warmth among the family members. How lucky are they to have had you as their photographer!

admin - Thank you Inge. It takes years to learn all the rules of composition and lighting and how to use your camera – and once you’ve perfected that – you can break the rules! You’re right – these photographs didn’t ‘just happen’ – I guided each and every ‘pose’ and know how to use window light to my advantage!

I think I have the BEST clients!

In my previous post I featured a family I photographed on the 3rd of August.  I gave them a Sneak Preview by posting a few of my favorite portraits from their session as they haven’t seen them as yet.  I also posted them to my Fan Page on Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Marlenes-Designer-Portraits/101824076523751?ref=ts Carissa re-posted the images...

Carissa - What I wrote was the complete truth! We could not have got this quality anywhere else! At that time of day and after a long day photographing our kids is next to impossible (actually it almost is ANYTIME of day but especially then! lol) and yet I wasn’t worried about being there at that time. After we left I knew the kids had been crazy but I had complete faith that out of that you would still have captured our family exactly as we are and I would love it! That’s impressive and it’s worth a LOT!

First Communion Portraits

I so enjoy seeing young girls dress up in a pretty dress!  In 2006, Monique brought in her daughter, Katryn,  for her first communion portraits.  She also brought Katryn’s younger sister and some new kittens!  Hmmmmm – if you’ve ever dealt with kittens – you know that they’re active, funny, silly, playful – and generally...

Sweet little Isabella…

On Friday I had a 1 year old girl come into the studio.  Grandma had called to say that she had the cutest grandchild!  I have to agree, Isabella is gorgeous.  So how do you decide which images to pick?  These were my favorites!

Before and After – Child Portrait

The time has come that many people have access to some wonderful digital cameras and I’ve seen many people call themselves a ‘professional photographer’.  Well, there is a difference between someone that has spent time learning how to interact with clients to get the perfect expression; have great composition; posing; lighting, etc.  This doesn’t happen...

Inge - Well said Marlene. I hope all your clients read this. People ‘out there’ need to know why we professionals charge what we do for our images, and it’s because we know our craft. And that takes years of study and practice.

Patty Boge - You’re a wonderful artist, Marlene! So talented and knowledgeable. I’m lucky to be able to call you my friend!

admin - Thank you Inge. Do people realize how much love, energy, knowledge and creativity go into each and every photograph? I hope this does help people realize that it takes more than just a camera to make a photographer. “It’s not the instrument or tool used – it is the mind, and talent that creates something wonderful.”

Ken Frazer - That is a great article Marlene! Your photograph illustrates the professional end result very well and the text explains and illustrates your passion for excellence. I think your clients are very lucky to have you and we need more of this information out to the public!

Carissa - This was an excellent post in the sense that it really brought out the difference between taking a good picture and knowing how to really perfect a picture. Beautiful! (And I wonder where that little girls mommy got her dress? ADORABLE!)
