“My husband would be the first to tell you he hates to have his picture taken. He told me after our last session with Marlene that she is the only one that is allowed to photograph him. Marlene’s ability to make him feel at ease and capture his character is truly a gift.

When Marlene suggested taking our family portraits in our yard, I was so excited, it wasn’t something I had considered. We are planning on moving shortly and the idea of having pictures of us in the yard that my husband built from nothing, is something we will always cherish. She noticed places in our yard that I would never have pictured the way she did.

I appreciate Marlene’s patience! I was overwhelmed with all the beautiful pictures at my photo viewing session. Marlene was very efficient and made the process easier by helping me narrow them down to my favorites and I never felt pressured or rushed and after 2 hours of deliberation, I’m so glad that she allowed me the extra time to confidently choose the portraits that will be displayed in our home.

I am not an openly emotional person but even now when I think about the gorgeous portraits Marlene took, I get choked up. She captured our personalities, the special bond that we have with each other, and there are not words to express how grateful I am. When Elma came in for her Design Consultation and I suggested perhaps using their yard for the portraits, it took her just a moment to agree that this would be the perfect location for their portrait session! We had a gorgeous evening and everyone was co-operating so the session was a breeze!

One of the only requests Elma made was that we photograph in front of their special tree…

And then we used the little playhouse that the girls have (almost) outgrown…

These girls look like models!!

Very hard to pick a favorite… but I’d say the following photo is probably my favorite! I love the mystical feeling that the sun through the trees gives to the quality of this photograph.

And then the light was just right to use the fence – gorgeous lighting, once again!

And, of course, with a beautiful, winding road, we had to end the session there! :)

How do you choose?

On August 13th I had Kas, Lorraine, Blake & Kaylee come in for a family portrait session. Kas is my ‘go to’ guy for all things computer related! I’ve been using his services for over a year and couldn’t be happier. Whenever I have a problem I just have to call him and he takes care of it.

I photographed Kas and Lorraine on their 1st wedding anniversary 4 years ago. Since then they’ve come in for portraits when Blake was little and now, since Kaylee has arrived – it was time for a new portrait (and Kas & Lorraine’s 5th wedding anniversary portraits!). Congratulations! I don’t often see couples coming in for their anniversary portraits until they get till their 25th – so it’s wonderful to see you celebrating each year.

Lorraine’s comments, after I showed her the images is “How do you choose? I’d like to have them all!” And now, when I want to post these here – I, too, couldn’t pick just a few – so you’ll be seeing all my favorites.

another baby!

Recently I photographed Nichole and Don for their maternity session. And I was thrilled when their little baby girl arrived and I could photograph her at just 6 days old! Welcome sweet Bailey – you’re so beautiful!

Thank you Nichole and Don and Bailey! I can’t wait to see her grow up!

The Results from my Holiday Mini-Sessions

Today was the day of my “Holiday Mini-Sessions”. I booked three sessions and all were completely different!

My first clients were the winners of my Walt Disney World trip last year! This time they decided to have just the girls photographed. Piper sat wonderfully still – but Davilyn was loving her new shoes and running around! It was hilarious – but I did get some wonderful images.

My next client has also been in previously – with her family in 2004. I had a great time with Rhonda and Kevin – what a wonderful couple!

My last family haven’t been in the studio for years, although I have photographed the kids for their school portraits for the last few years. Matthew was the easiest to get to smile. Emily was quite a poser and all of her images were fabulous – and Adam … what can I say? He was not being generous with his smiles – but he did flash me a beautiful smile on a couple images! These are my two favorites from that session!

I had a great time with these Holiday Mini-Sessions! If you’re interesting in having a portrait taken for Christmas – I have two dates left!

Anyone want an “In-Home Portrait?”

There has been something I have wanted to do for quite some time – and that is “In-Home” Portraits. I did my first sessions this past March… “awaiting the baby” and again in “another ‘in-home’ portrait session, while in Brandon. I have been meaning to do more of these – but my clients have been loving what my studio offers! But, there are always a few that want something different. I have found that when people are in their own environment they tend to be more relaxed! These portraits also showcase their home – their personality in furniture and decor and they also have their wardrobe handy to change if they wish!

Here is a session I did this past September. I photographed Cheryl & Jeff for the first time in November 2005 for their engagement portraits (you’ll see their portrait on display in their home!). I then had the privilege of photographing their wedding in January 2006. Now there are a few reasons that Cheryl and Jeff are special people. One is that Cheryl is my niece and one of the best Massage Therapists around! Cheryl is an outgoing bubbly person and Jeff is this serious man – but with a great sense of humour! They make a perfect couple and I love photographing them! I would say that 3½ years after their wedding they look as much in love as they did on their wedding day!

What fun! There were so many areas to photograph in and around their home! Cheryl was a bit reluctant at first as she said they wanted to paint, replace baseboards, flooring, etc. But I told her that this was the first house that they bought and these would bring back great memories of what it looked like! When they viewed their images after the session she exclaimed, “Wow – our home looks pretty good!” Thank you Jeff – for being a good sport in allowing me to invade your home – especially since you’d just come back from several days on the road and were hungry and tired! You don’t look it! Cheryl – keep smiling! I LOVE your smile!
