You don’t! You take them all! Now some people might call these ‘Lifestyle’ photographs, but these are MORE than that! You have control of the lighting and posing even though it doesn’t look like you have posed this family. Now THAT’S what professional photography is all about – making it look unposed when you have actually guided people into position. They’re NOT just ‘snapshots’ like all the ‘cheap and cheerful’ photographers out there claim are ‘Lifestyle’ photography. You have captured the relationships in this family perfectly, and I can feel the warmth among the family members. How lucky are they to have had you as their photographer!

Thank you Inge. It takes years to learn all the rules of composition and lighting and how to use your camera – and once you’ve perfected that – you can break the rules! You’re right – these photographs didn’t ‘just happen’ – I guided each and every ‘pose’ and know how to use window light to my advantage!  In my previous post I featured a family I photographed on the 3rd of August. I gave them a Sneak Preview by posting a few of my favorite portraits from their session as they haven’t seen them as yet. What I wrote was the complete truth! We could not have got this quality anywhere else! At that time of day and after a long day photographing our kids is next to impossible (actually it almost is ANYTIME of day but especially then! lol) and yet I wasn’t worried about being there at that time. After we left I knew the kids had been crazy but I had complete faith that out of that you would still have captured our family exactly as we are and I would love it! That’s impressive and it’s worth a LOT!  Last Tuesday, right after the long weekend, I photographed a family that has been here numerous times over the years! I remember photographing Carissa when she turned 16 and now she is the mother of two very cute and very active young children. It’s a pleasure for us too Marlene! I was thinking after we took these photos how I could do a photo hournal of my life using mostly your photos! lol! My 16th, my grad, my engagement, the birth of my daughter, Alli as a toddler, the birth of my son, and now him as a toddler and her as a preschooler! You always have and continue to amaze me with your work!  Recently Heather and Scott were back in the studio. Check out their last visit here. The children have grown and it was time for an update. What an absolutely amazing series of images Marlene! You have captured the personalities of the three children so well, I feel I know them from these photographs. Heather and Scott will treasure these for the rest of their lives!  Late November I had a call from Michelle. She had never been in the studio before – but had driven by and seen my road sign and decided to give me a call!
