Sun, 01 Jan 2012 00:05:37 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.1.2 It’s been a while since my last post! http://www.marlenesdesignerportraits.com/blog/its-been-a-while-since-my-last-post/ http://www.marlenesdesignerportraits.com/blog/its-been-a-while-since-my-last-post/#comments Sun, 25 Jan 2009 01:24:55 +0000 admin http://www.marlenesdesignerportraits.com/blog/?p=900 As most photographers know, the months before Christmas are the busiest throughout the year.  That is when it seems you’re going full-tilt and non-stop, trying to photograph as many families as possible so they can gift family and friends with beautiful portraits.  My busy time doesn’t stop right before Christmas – but continues the week after.  Each year I open up a few days between Christmas and New Year for “Home for the Holidays” portraits.  These tend to fill up quickly.   On December 27th I had Andy and Brenda, Kyra and Troy come in for some family portraits.  Kyra and Troy are old enough that they were very cooperative and enjoyed the session.   Mom and Dad had wanted all their portraits in a beautiful Sepia tone, but when I photographed the two children together, and came up with this series of images – they loved the punch of color as much as I did – and these were ordered in color!

I then did some more romantic photos of Andy and Brenda – the kids were watching and giggled when Mom and Dad were snuggling and kissing.  I love watching kids react to their parents showing how much they love each other!   My favorite photo of the session!

Beautiful little girl! Brigitte’s mom called me on the 3rd of September asking about my portraits. She was new in town and had heard about me and checked out my website. I invited her in for a tour of the studio and to talk about what her vision was for the portrait. At that session I found out that she had a 1½ year old that she wanted portraits of, as well as the family of 3. We decided on a date (October 25th, after I came back from my African adventure).

Little Brigitte arrives with her parents that day – and she is extremely shy – at least it seemed that way. She looked at me suspiciously but she was wiling to do what mom and dad wanted her to. We started off in my window light room – and we tried to get her to sit or stand in a certain place, but, you can’t tell a 1½ year old what to do! You just go with the flow. She had a few of her favorite toys, her special doll and her books with her. Eventually we got some absolutely amazing images of her – doing what she wanted to do! Why do we even try to tell young children what to do – I’ve discovered that we just let them lead the way! That is the best way to capture their personality and spirit in a timeless photograph!
